Amber – Practice Manager

Amber has worked for over ten years in varying roles in the medical sector including pharmacy, inpatient hospital services and specialist practice management.  She has a special interest in orthopaedics and enjoys supporting patients through their treatment journey with Dr Nicola Ward.  Amber spends her spare time volunteering for the State Emergency services, enjoys gardening and spending time with her pet ducks, chickens, and cats.

Amber has bachelor’s degree in health science, a diploma in practice management, and a certificate 3 in community pharmacy.

 

 

Dr Nicola Ward

Dr Nicola Ward is an Australian trained orthopaedic surgeon with extensive surgical experience.

She completed her medical degree at Otago University in New Zealand in 2000 and undertook basic surgical training in Queensland.  She was then selected for the Queensland Orthopaedic Training Program in 2007, completing her training in 2010 and gaining fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in January 2011.

Dr Ward spent a year doing a hip and knee replacement fellowship at Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland.  Musgrave Park Hospital has a reputation for excellence in specialist orthopaedic and rehabilitation services.  During this time, Dr Ward worked under the supervision of Professor David Beverland, a world renowned orthopaedic surgeon.

Dr Ward spent a further year of orthopaedic fellowship training focusing on pelvis and acetabular trauma and revision hip replacements at Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals in Bristol, England.

As well as providing private orthopaedic surgical services at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, Dr Ward is a Senior Staff Specialist at Princess Alexandra Hospital & a Visiting Medical Officer at the Queensland Childrens Hospital.  Nicola is a Specialist Reservist in the Royal Australian Airforce and a faculty member on the Emergency Management of Severe Trauma course.

Dr Ward became a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association in July 2014.  She is also a member of the Australian Medical Association Queensland, an international affiliate of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and a member of the Academy of Surgical Educators.

If you choose to spend time in the Mater Private Hospital Rehabilitation Unit post operatively, Dr Phong Nguyen will be the consultant looking after you and leading your rehabilitation journey home.

Phoebe – Practice Nurse

Phoebe has worked as an operating theatre scrub nurse with Dr Ward for four years at Mater Private Hospital.

She will meet you in Dr Ward’s rooms after surgery; initially when she calls you to check that all is well in your post-operative journey, and then to check on your wound healing and take out your stitches if that is required.

Phoebe has a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Paramedic Science with Distinction.
